AMResorts Planning Big Expansion in Mexico

Hospitality giant AMResorts is planning a major expansion in Mexico, including the Mexican Caribbean.

The all-inclusive titan has announced the signing of four new resort management contracts, including Secrets Punta de Mita; Dreams Punta de Mita; Secrets Marina Resort and Now Natura Riviera Cancun.

“Consistently, Mexico has proven to be a strong and resilient market, welcoming increasing numbers of international visitors every year,” said Alex Zozaya, CEO of Apple Leisure Group, parent company of AMResorts. “We will continue to expand AMResorts’ presence in emerging and existing destinations across Mexico.”

Now Natura Riviera Cancun will be the first new-build for the brand on the Riviera Maya, with 534 rooms on the beach just 10 minutes from Cancun International Airport, with amenities from a grotto bar to an an infinity pool with a waterslide.

It is slated to open in late 2019, according to the company.

AMResorts’ other new Mexican Caribbean property, Secrets Marina Resort and Spa, will have 407 rooms in the Marina El Cid development about 30 minutes south of Cancun Airport.

“As a whole, Mexico offers a wealth of investment opportunities, and our owners see a strong and consistent return on their resort investments,” said Javier Coll, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of Apple Leisure Group. “We have more than 17 years of experience in the region and will continue to leverage our market knowledge to strategically expand in our principal tourism corridors as well as enter new, popular destinations seeing high demand.”

By the end of 2019, AMResorts will have more than 60 resorts in its regional portfolio, with more than 24,000 rooms across Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, in a total of 30 destinations.

“Mexico is a key player in the global tourism arena with sound international visitation numbers, due to its blend of history, culture and natural beauty,” said Gonzalo del Peon, AMResorts President. “We are excited to offer AMResorts’ luxurious vacation experiences to travelers in more destinations across the country.”
