Private Sector Aids in St Kitts Crime Fight

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - October 24, 2011

St Kitts and Nevis’ newly-formed Delta Squad crime-fighting force is getting a boost from the federation’s Customs and Excise Department, along with the private TDC Group.

TDC and the Customs Department are splitting a new bus for the force, along with another CED is donating.

“We will provide continued support including maintenance and the general upkeep of the vehicle,” said TDC Chairman Michael Morton. “We believe that with more help coming from the private sector, we will eliminate, if not totally reduce substantially the level of crime in our nation.”

According to Police Commissioner CG Walwyn, the squad had seen success in its first operations, including some “significant” arrests.

“The Delta Squad has been effective and the additional transportation will add to our resources and will ensure that both vehicles will be used in the fight against crime,” he said. “Crime is everybody’s business, and is not just the job of the police alone.”
