Fast-expanding Apple Leisure Group subsidiary AMResorts has signed a resort management deal for the new Sunscape Star Cancun in the Mexican Caribbean, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The new all-inclusive, family-friendly resort is slated to open in December 2018, according to the company.

Sunscape Star Cancun will be located west of Cancun’s Hotel Zone, between Puerto Cancun and Playa Mujeres, next to the Puerto Cancun Golf Club.

“As the most visited tourist destination* in Mexico, Cancun and the Riviera Maya will continue to be an integral part of ALG’s growth strategy given our strong brand recognition in the market and powerful distribution channels there,” said Alex Zozaya, CEO of Apple Leisure Group. “The new, elevated Sunscape Resorts & Spas brand concept allows us to offer travelers more resort options that cater to their specific needs, while giving us more opportunities to grow ALG in Mexico and beyond.”

The resort is being designed by Mexican architectural firm Sordo Madaleno.

“After a thorough analysis of the market, we saw an opportunity to take Sunscape’s popular Unlimited-Fun® vacation concept to an elevated experience with this resort,” said Javier Coll, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of Apple Leisure Group. “ALG is attuned to not only travelers’ desires but also owners’ needs, and by offering differentiated brand products we are creating more opportunities to capitalize on the high demand in the region.”

Amenities at the resort will include a mini-bar in all rooms stocked daily, expanded live entertainment options, free Wi-Fi, four restaurants, a buffet, a food court and a grill and cafe.

Other options will include an Explorer’s Club for kids, a Teens Club, an adults-only rooftop pool and a Sunscape Spa by Pevonia.
