Legendary Tortola Hotel Plans Quick Comeback

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - September 21, 2017

The island of Tortola was not spared the wrath of Hurricane Irma, but the island’s most legendary hotel is making a quick comeback.

The Sugar Mill Hotel and Restaurant, set on Tortola’s Apple Bay, is expected to reopen its restaurant on Oct. 12, and, more importantly, reopen its hotel on Oct. 14.

While the property suffered “some damage,” the property said in a statement that “so far it appears manageable.”

“As some may know we had a team of construction workers on site making improvements and additions,” the hotel said. “Their immediate efforts will now be directed to making repairs, further announcement will be made when we know more.

The boutique Sugar Mill has 23 rooms, set on a historic property containing the restored ruins of an old sugar mill.

it’s a major boost for an island reeling from the destructive force of Irma — and a very positive sign for British Virgin Islands tourism.
