Bahamian national carrier Bahamasair has officially launched its new weekly service between Nassau and the Haitian city of Cap-Haitien.

The flights were inaugurated with a ceremony at Cap Haitien’s Hugo Chavez International Airport.

Haiti Tourism Minister Jessy Menos said the new air link was particularly important given the large population of Haitians living in the Bahamas.

It’s also a new link to a city that has been increasing in profile thanks to the launch of new US flights from Miami on American Airlines.

“I look forward to welcoming more Bahamians willing to discover the charm and historic heritage of the north of Haiti,” Menos said.

Sunrise Airways, whcih recently added new Port-au-Prince flights, also operates flights to the destination from Miami.
