Belmond to Undertake $121 Million Renovation at Cap Juluca

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - July 31, 2017

Luxury hotel company Belmond is planning a significant renovation of the landmark Cap Juluca resort in Anguilla.

The 96-room Cap Juluca was rebranded as Belmond Cap Juluca in May, following London-based Belmond’s purchase of the hotel from former owners Charles and Linda Hickox.

The hotel first opened its doors in 1988.

Belmond said it would be investing a total of approximately $121 million in a “comprehensive” renovation project that will include refurbishments, interior upgrades to all suites and villas, the introduction of new culinary concepts, enhancements to the spa and new and renovated public areas.

Most importantly, the renovation will include the development of 25 new beachfront villas or suites at the famed Maundays Bay resort.

This week, Belmond announced the appointment of Tiago Moraes Sarmento as its new general manager, a role in which he will oversee the day to day operations of the resort and direct the renovation.

“We are thrilled to have Tiago direct Belmond Cap Juluca’s operations as we restore this Caribbean gem to its iconic status,” said Rui Reis, regional managing director for Belmond. “His tireless work ethic and extensive global experience will be instrumental as we work to raise the profile of this exceptional property.”

Cap Juluca’s property includes an 1800-square-foot freshwater pool, four food venues and two tennis courts, among other amenities.
