Virgin Atlantic Launching New Flights from Heathrow to Barbados

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - February 26, 2017

Virgin Atlantic is expanding its service the island of Barbados.

The international carrier has announced plans to launch new twice-weekly service between London Heathrow Airport and Barbados’ Grantley Adams International Airport.

The new service will begin operating on Dec. 12, with flights on sale from Saturday, Feb. 25.

The new service will also be the only nonstop flights from Heathrow to Barbados, with London carriers currently only operating Barbados flights out of London Gatwick.

“London Heathrow is the largest airport in the U.K., handling over 70 million passengers annually,” said William Griffith, CEO of Barbados Tourism Marketing. “These new flights will make Barbados more accessible to passengers travelling on many major airlines that only fly into London Heathrow. We expect that this new route will make Barbados a more competitive and attractive destination to visitors choosing holidays.”

The flights will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays on an Airbus A330 aircraft, meaning Virgin will offer up to 11 Barbados flights each week across Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester airports.

“The Caribbean has always been a core market for Virgin Atlantic and so we’re excited to announce we’re offering more choice to our customers with the option of flying from Heathrow, Gatwick or Manchester direct to Barbados,” said Shai Weiss, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Atlantic.
