Trinidad and Tobago Showing Strong Cruise Growth

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - July 5, 2016

It was a strong season for cruise arrivals to Trinidad and Tobago, according to the latest numbers from the country’s Tourism Development Company.

The island of Trinidad received 30,493 cruise passenger arrivals from 25 cruises, while Tobago saw 70,298 passengers from 60 vessel calls — an increase of 115 percent over the 2014/2015 cruise season.

Trinidad and Tobago Tourism Minister Shamfa Cudjoe attributed the increase to a variety of factors, including “aggressive marketing campaigns undertaken by the TDC in partnership with the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, the enhanced collaboration with the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), the improved quality of the shore excursions, berthing facilities and piloting services as well as the excellent service rendered by the expertly trained and friendly Visitor Guides.”

The country expects 85 vessel calls between Trinidad and Tobago in the 2016/2017 cruise season, with Princess Cruises confirming plans to begin calling at both Trinidad and Tobago.

Officials said the average cruise passenger spends $42.58 in Trinidad and $74.18 in Tobago.
