$2 Billion Caribbean Resort Project Closer to Launch

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - March 8, 2016

The Caribbean’s biggest new hotel project is closer to launching.

Right now, it’s called the Grenada Resort Complex Project, the brainchild of a China-based development group called United Demi Group.

The project, which held its official launch in China last year, involves the development of the Mt Hartman peninsula and Hog Island in Grenada.

The $2 billion project would include high-end resorts, residential components, a national park, a wellness and medical center and a marina village, among other features.

Now, Grenada Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell says the investors have already begun the cleanup work on the project.

Mitchell said the group had “agreed to invest in a serious training program to ensure they have qualified people on board.”

“There is going to be serious economic spin-off for the country whether its agriculture, Tourism development all aspects in the productive sector and work for the young people,” Mitchell said this week. “There is going to be an ambitious training program preparing the young people for the jobs that will come.”

The project is the largest announced in the Caribbean since the Yida mega-project in Antigua, which was first announced in 2014.
