How These Caribbean Marinas are Serving Their Communities

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - December 17, 2015

A new initiative

IGY Marinas is launching a new community service initiative in 2016.

The project, “Inspire Giving through You” will focus on community-based endeavors at the very destinations and communities where the company operates its marinas.

“As an important milestone for our company, we will commemorate our 11th anniversary by launching the project, said Chief Executive Officer Tom Mukamal.

“Guests and boaters come to our marinas to enjoy the destinations, local cultures and attractions. We have always included community service into our business practices, and now we have an ambitious plan to embark on our 2016 Community Outreach Project to give back to the local destinations in which we live and work,” he said. “It is important to show our communities and the world the depth of IGY’s collective spirit and commitment to our valued destinations. We hope this call to action serves as a model for the marina industry and an inspiration to others.”

The program’s objective entails three components– to identify an area of need at each marina destination and partner it with a non-profit organization, to coordinate a community-focused event where IGY associates, customers, and partners can make a difference, and to give back to each community.

“Inspire Giving Through You” aims to encourage social responsibility through offering opportunities that will range from animal adoption to improvements for youth group and elderly organizations.

IGY Marinas is is calling for supportive efforts from IGY corporate staff, marina associates, Anchor Club Sponsors, boat owners, captains, and crew to take part in this new initiative, which will kick off with multiple events in various destinations over two dates in 2016.

On February 20, 2016, outreach events at the following destinations will directly benefit the Caribbean and Latin American communities: Yacht Club at Isle de Sol (St. Maarten), Simpson Bay Marina (St. Maarten), Yacht Haven Grande (St. Thomas), American Yacht Harbor (St. Thomas), Blue Haven Marina (Turks & Caicos), Red Frog Beach Marina (Bocas del Toro), Marina Cabo San Lucas (Mexico), and Marina Santa Marta (Colombia).
