The Caribbean brought home 19 medals at the recently-concluded World Championships in South Korea, led by Jamaica, which earned nine medals, including four golds.

Jamaica earned 101 points with its golds, four silvers and a bronze medal, and Grenada emerged with 11 points, boosted by Kirani James’ gold in the 400 meter sprint.

The Caribbean’s tally also included medals by Puerto Rico, St Kitts and Nevis, the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico and Cuba.

Cuba won four medals, and St Kitts earned two bronzes.

The track and field games, which were organized by the Amateur Athletic Federation, took home three first-place finishes.

Jamaica’s Yohan Blake won the 100 meters, Usain Bolt in the 200, and James in the 400.

Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown took home a gold in the women’s 200 meters.

James’ victory was the first outdoor track title by a Grenadian. The Grenadian government, led by Prime Minister Tillman Thomas, is considering how to honor James and fellow countryman Rondell Bartholomew, who finished sixth in the 400.
