Why you need to visit Fowl Cay

As Caribbean resorts go, Fowl Cay is ne plus ultra. What better way to describe this 50-acre private-island resort where everything – and we mean everything – is included. From a fully stocked kitchen to sunset cocktails to outdoor showers to your own golf cart, staying in one of the six cottages at this villa-resort hybrid means having it all.

It also means having to make some hard choices: Will you sunbathe spread-eagle on South Beach or North Beach? (They’re both winsome strands.)

Or maybe you’ll bike along shrub-lined paths to parts unknown – or at least as far as the islet’s lush western tip

Perhaps some pool time at Hill House, Fowl Cay’s gathering place, is in order? From its perch you can enjoy panoramic views of the cays beyond yet you’ll only be steps from a rum punch from the handsome bar.

A quick game of tennis or half an hour in the exercise room is a worthy way to spend your morning, too.

But however you choose to start your day, we bet you’ll end it the way we did: By boarding your own powerboat and setting off with a picnic lunch to explore the neighboring islets.

Which is possibly the best thing about this relaxed retreat: Each villa comes with its own 17-foot Angler that you can use as much as you like (even gas is included) to discover at leisure the pristine and largely deserted islands that are the Exumas’ claim to fame.

Today you could skinny-dip with your sweetie off Twin Cays. Tomorrow you might swim with friendly nurse sharks at Compass Cay or marvel at the mischievous swimming pigs on Big Major Cay. And the next day … well … who knows? When Fowl Cay is your resort, the Caribbean is your oyster.
