Grenada has presented filmmaker Steve McQueen with an award for his contribution in the field of culture.
McQueen, who directed the Oscar-winning Twelve Years a Slave, received the Grenada Independence Award in a presentation ceremony including Culture Minister Brenda Hood and Tourism Minister Yolande Bain-Horsford.
McQueen is British but of Grenadian heritage; he was on the island recently to do a video shoot for the upcoming 56th Venice Biennale 2015 International Art Exhibition, the government said in a statement.
Grenada will be participating in that event for the first time this year through the Grenada Art Council.
