Atlantis, Paradise Island has named Paul Burke its new president and managing director.

Burke, who has immediately assumed the position, succeeds former president and Caribbean hospitality veteran George Markantonis in the role.

Markantonis recently resigned after nearly 10 years with the Paradise Island resort; he had been named Caribbean Hotelier of the Year by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association last year.

“We are pleased to have Paul transition into his new role with Atlantis,” said Andrea Balkan, managing partner at Brookfield Asset Management, which owns the resort. “Paul has a deep and varied background in the hospitality industry, including serving as the Chief Operating Officer at Atlantis. Paul is fully immersed in the Atlantis culture, and we are confident he and his veteran team will work to maintain the resort as a world-class destination.”

Burke has been with the property since 2011.

In a statement, Brookfield said Burke would “lead and oversee Atlantis’ business development, initiatives, growth, and overall operations of the property.”

“My new position at Atlantis is something I have worked towards my entire career, and all of my previous professional experience has prepared me for this role,” Burke said. “I am very thankful for this fantastic opportunity.”
