British Airways will be launching an additional weekly flight to the island of Tobago.

The news was announced by British Airway’s head of commercial, Colm Lacy, at the UK launch of the Tobago Legends Football Classic in London this week.

The new weekly flight will commence in the spring of 2015. British Airways currently operates one weekly flight to the island.

“This is being driven by demand on the route and we felt that we could allow visitors to the island the opportunity to stay seven days, eleven days or fourteen days,” Lacy said.

The flight will be shared with the island of Antigua, but Lacy said that, as Tobago continued to grow as a destination, BA would be interested in exploring nonstop flights to Tobago.

“This decision by BA to add the flight to Tobago is testimony to the confidence they have in the destination and is a credible sign that we are making progress with our tourism product,” said Tracy Davidson-Celestine, Secretary of Tourism in the Tobago House of Assembly.
