Honduras and the United States held the fourth round of their bilateral human rights workshop in Tegucigalpa on Thursday, according to the US Department of State.

The meeting covered themes including “reforming the security sector, combatting impunity, strengthening human rights institutions, and collaborating with civil society,” the State Department said in a statement.

The two sides discussed progress and challenges in the human rights situation in Honduras, and “reaffirmed their commitment to work together to protect and promote human rights.”

Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernandez led the Honduran delegation, which included Supreme Court President Jorge Ramon Hernandez Alcerro, Justice and Human Rights Minister Rigoberto Chang Castillo, Foreign Minister Mireya Aguero de Corrales, Security Minister Arturo Corrales Alvarez, Defence Minister Samuel Reyes and Attorney General Fernando Chinchilla.

The American delegation was led by US Ambassador to Honduras Lisa Kubiske, who was joined by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Michael Kozak, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Luis Arreaga and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Francisco Palmieri.
