Flags from across the international community have been raised in the port of Charlestown in Nevis, part of a beautification project in the area.

Nevis Deputy Premier and Tourism Minister Mark Brantley helped raise the flags on Samuel Hunkins Drive on Friday. The flags included those from the Caribbean Community like Haiti and Guyana to those of countries like the United States and Canada.

“We have many nationals living here. We want them to see their flags reflected so that they could understand that they are welcome in Nevis,” Brantley said.

“They are an integral part of what we are doing to build this nation and we feel at the same time it lifts the waterfront considerably, especially as one approaches Charlestown from the ocean.”

The beautification project was announced last week; it is being supported in part by the government of Taiwan, the Ministry of Tourism and the Nevis Tourism Authority.
