Nevis is taking steps to restore the Charlestown Waterfront to “its former glory,” according to the Nevis Island Administration.

The project, which launched on Jan. 23, is a partnership between the Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority, the Ministry of Tourism and government of Taiwan.

The project, which is estimated to cost around $37,000 USD, is slated for completion by the end of this month, according to Alexis Jeffers, Minister for Communication and Works.

It includes the installation of 13 LED street lights donated by the government of Taiwan on Samuel Hunkins Drive and the resurfacing of the main road and parking lot.

Subsequent phases will see more LED lights on the main pier in Charlestown, with additional street lights in areas that lead to the waterfront.

Jeffers said the government would also be installing 14 flags of “various nations” on the waterfront.

“They will provide, for foreign nationals who visit, a sense of pride. Let them know that we are proud of them,” he said.
