Taiwan is “interested” in strengthening tourism promotion and investment in the Dominican Republic, according to Yeh Kuang-Shih, the country’s Minister of Transport and Communications.

The collaboration between the countries would include both promoting the Dominican Republic as a destination to Taiwanese tourists and investing in the tourism industry.

Yeh visited the Dominican Republic last week, joined by a high-level delegation comprised of tourism operators, yacht manufacturers, airline officials and tourism agency officials, according to a government statement.

Yeh said the Dominican Republic could use its golfing sector to attract tourists from Taiwan, and that the country would help promote the country as a golf destination, as golf is particularly popular in Taiwan.

Taiwan is also interested in investing in the yacht manufacturing sector, an area in which it has also expressed interest in working with St Lucia.

Much of the countries’ recent collaboration has focused on the technology sector.

The delegation concludes its visit Monday.
