Dominica Prime Minister Marries

Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit married his longtime girlfriend, Melissa Poponne, Saturday afternoon.

The news was announced in a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, which called Poponne the Prime Minister’s “sweetheart for many years.”

The two were married at the Bourne Roman Catholic Chapel, followed by a private reception at Skerrit’s private residence in Dominica’s Vieille Case.

The two reportedly left Dominica for a “short period” on Sunday.

Skerrit has served as Dominica’s Prime Minister since 2004. At 40 years of age, he is one of the world’s youngest heads of government.
