MIAMI — Marriott is planning to open a JW Marriott Hotel and Casino in Turks and Caicos, the company announced Monday at the Caribbean Hotel and Resort and Investment Summit in Miami.

The 380-room property, which will also feature 16 condominiums, will be located on Providenciales on a site adjacent to the Seven Stars Resort. The hotel is projected to open in early 2016.

The project is the product of an agreement signed between Desarrollos and the government of Turks and Caicos signed in October 2012. At that time, the cost of the project was estimated at $500 million.

Marriott International will operate the property as part of a long-term agreement with Desarollos Hotelco Turks and Caicos, Ltd.

“We are thrilled to bring the JW Marriott brand of luxury to Turks and Caicos,” said Walter Stipa, a majority investor of DesarrollosHotelco Turks and Caicos, in a statement. “And with its prime location on stunning Grace Bay Beach, we know that it will be very successful.”

Stipa owns the Ritz-Carlton Aruba, which is slated to open in November. Robert M Coleman & Partners, which designed that property, will design the JW Marriott.

It will be the second JW Marriott-branded property to open in the Caribbean — another is slated to open in Santo Domingo next year.
