Sport fishing could become a major new attraction for the British Virgin Islands, according to BVI Film Commissioner Rhodni Skelton.

At the end of 2012, Skelton introduced William Boyce, a photojournalist and executive producer for Saltwater Adventures with Bill Boyce on the World Fishing Network to the waters off of Anegada.

“What I did not realize until I came to BVI to fish and in December is that the most prolific area to fish during these competitions is right off Anegada,” Boyce said. “I can see why these fish congregate there — these waters are incomparable.”

And the fishing expert thinks sport fishing could be a boon for the territory.

Boyce said that the amount of money per day a sport fisher spends on vacation “dwarfs what the average tourist will pay to enjoy the same location.”

“I would rate the BVI as potentially the best-kept secret in the Caribbean,” he said. “I want to get the word out and change that secret to the best fishing destination in the Caribbean.”

The production of Boyce’s documentary on sport fishing on the area will air in June on several networks.
