The United States is recommitting itself to “helping Haiti realize a future its people deserve,” Ambassador to Haiti Pamela White said in a statement to mark the third anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti.

“On this day the United States joins with Haiti to remember those who lost their lives but more importantly to honor them by looking forward as we re-commit ourselves to helping Haiti realize a future its people deserve,” she said. “Haitians have faced adversity both before and since the earthquake. It is your resilience and courage that has gotten the nation through trying times.  Indeed, it is these very same qualities that have helped put Haiti on a road towards greater prosperity and stability.

White first arrived in Haiti in August 2012, succeeding former US Ambassador Kenneth Merten in the post.

“The United States looks forward to partnering with Haiti in the days and years to come as we honor those who lost their lives and help Haiti realize a better tomorrow,” she said.
