Haiti will host a visit next week by Michael Posner, the United States Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labour.

The news was announced in a release from the US State Department.

Posner’s visit to Haiti, which will last from Jan. 14 to Jan. 16, will include meetings with Haiti’s Minister Delegate for Human Rights and the Fight Against Extreme Poverty; the Ombudswoman of the Office of Citizen Protection, the Secretary of State for Disabilities and the Director General of the Haitian National Police.

He will also be visiting with representatives of MINUSTAH, the UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti, along with leaders from various civil society groups.

The State Department said US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had made engagement with the latter a priority “because societies move forward when citizens are empowered to transform common interests into common actions that serve the common good.”
