Grenada is readying for yachting and sailing season with a full calendar of races on the waters of the tri-island state in 2013.

There are four major events on the calendar for 2013.

“The destination’s waters offer some of the best sailing in the Caribbean, enabling us to host an exciting and diverse calendar of events,” said Tourism Minister Dr George Vincent. “Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique boast a year-round list of regattas and races that not only test the sailing skills but highlight the islands’ unique blend of great sailing and great Grenadian hospitality.”

This year’s slate is highlighted by the Grenada Sailing Week Camper and Nicholsons Race Series from Jan. 31 to Feb. 5 and is inviting sailors from across the world to come and “Sail de Spice.”

The newly-announced international yacht racing event consists of four days of competitive racing, part of the Southern Caribbean Regatta Circuit.

Others in the series include the Grenada Sailing Festival Heritage Work Boat Regatta, from Feb. 9 to Feb. 10; the South Grenada Regatta, from Feb. 21 to 23 and the Carraicou Regatta, which lasts from Aug. 3 to Aug. 6.

The latter will include races to Grenada and to Union Island and Bequia in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
