Haiti’s government has created a commission on price stabilization, the office of Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe announced Friday.

The commission will be comprised of representatives of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, the Council of Economic and Social Development and the National Coordination on Food Security.

The new body’s mandate will be to propose measures to stabilize commodity prices considered “sensitive” because of their importance to Haiti’s food basket.

In a statement, Haiti’s government said it was committed to the fight against high prices through “concrete, rapid, appropriate and effective” measures.

It said the committee would work with private sector and farming stakeholders to adopt measures that would “contribute to price stability.”
