The condolences have poured in from across the region for the loss of Sir Allan Fitzgerald Louisy, who served as Prime Minister of St. Lucia from 1979-1981, along with a five-year stint as the leader of the opposition. Louisy was also a former Judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court. He was 94. “Sir Allan was a humble and honorable man who loved his community and country dearly,” the St. Lucia Labour Party said in a statement. “He was the consummate professional, who excelled in his chosen profession of Law and shared his knowledge and experience freely.” CARICOM released an official statement yesterday praising Louisy’s life and calling him a “true visionary.” “Sir Allan led an exemplary life defined by his commitment to excellence, his sense of community and love of his people, his humility and his indefatigable dedication to his country and to this region,” said CARICOM Acting Secretary-General, Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite.
She called him a “true visionary who fully embraced his role as leader of the newly-independent Caribbean nation of St. Lucia as well as his role as a regionalist.”
