Grenada has brought a 10-member delegation to London, and the country has big dreams for the next two weeks.

The delegation is being joined in the capital by Chef de Mission Conrad Francis and coach Albert Joseph.

“There are 10 athletes in London, but 100,000 of us at home, and many more thousands in the Diaspora that must give them our support and encouragement,” said Arley Gill, spokesman for the ruling National Democratic Congress. “I’m sure it made us all proud and warmed our hearts when we saw our athletes parading at the opening.”

Star sprinter Kirani James carried Grenada’s flag in the national procession Friday. He will be racing in the very-competitive 400 metres.

Grenada’s Kanika Beckles will be representing the country in the women’s 400 metres.

The 10-member delegation includes James, Rondell Bartholomew, Kurt Felix, Esau Simpson, Andrea St Bernard, Joel Redhead, Neisha Bernard-Thomas, Paul Williams, Kanika Beckles and Janelle Redhead.

St Bernard, the senior member of the group, will be competing in Taekwondo.

Also joining the group will be Grenada Sports Minister Patrick Simmons, Grenada Olympic Committee President Royston La Hee and Veda Bruno-Victor, the committee’s secretary.

Grenada was first represented at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984.
