Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe paid a surprise visit to the Commissariat of Police in Port-au-Prince Wednesday evening.

Lamothe was accompanied on the trip by Senate President Simon Desras Dieuseul, Youth, Sports and Civic Action Minister Rene Jean Roosevelt and Secretary General of the Prime Minister Michel Brunache.

The Prime Minister said the visit came from a desire to “personally inquire” about the working conditions of Haiti’s police officers.

Also Wednesday the Prime Minister visited a group of roads being repaired in Haiti’s capital under the Operation “Stop Gap” programme in the areas of Rues Pavee and Montalais.

That project, which is slated to last for a total of 90 days, intends to help facilitate the flow of vehicles and improve public transportation, according to the government. It was launched earlier this month.

The plan covers 37 kilometres of roads in Haiti’s capital.
