Jamaica’s Appleton Marks 50 Years of Independence With a Very Old Rum

Jamaica’s Appleton has released a new limited edition rum to mark the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence.
Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum is comprised of rums that have been aged for a minimum of 50 years in hand-selected, oak barrels.
The company is releasing 800 bottles of the product for sale. The price? $5,000 USD for each 750ml bottle.
The bottles are the product of a 50-year project — just before Jamaica received its independence from Great Britain, several bottles of the rum were set aside to create the 50-year blend.
“We are very proud of the Appleton Estate 50-Year-Old Jamaica Rum,” said Paul Henriques, managing director of J Wray & Nephew, which owns the Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum brand. ”
The product was officially launched last month at a ceremony at Kingston’s Jamaica House.
Appleton’s distillery is located in Jamaica’s Nassau Valley.
