Grenada has signed a $10.5 million loan agreement with OPEC’s Fund for International Development to be used for the repair and renovation of 10 schools and 17 kitchen facilities across the country.

Grenadian Ambassador to the European Union Stephen Fletcher signed the agreement along with Suleiman J. Al-Herbish, Director-General of OFID in Vienna.

Prime Minister Tillman Thomas said his government was committed “to deepen the relationship with the Fund as we continue to advance our development agenda to improve the well-being of our citizens.”

Education Minister Franka Alexis-Bernardine, who was in Paris attending the UNESCO Executive Board Meeting, said students at the schools “could now look forward to improved physical facilities over the next few months.”

Finance Minister Nazim Burke echoed the sentiment, calling it a “welcome injection of financial resources in the economy.”

The OPEC Fund for International Development has been working with Grenada for decades, including on the construction of the country’s international airport in the 1980s.
