Nevis is set to unveil a new home for the performing arts on the island.

Premier Joseph Parry led a cabinet delegation to tour the new Nevis Performing Arts Centre at Pinneys this week, ahead of its official opening in April.

“No longer must it be said that Nevis does not have a proper place for the performing arts,” said Hensley Daniel, Minister of Culture in the Nevis Island Administration. “We have put an end to that.”

“As Minister of Culture, it gave me a sense of these are the things we ought to do for the people,” Daniel said. “The tour here simply brings to fruition the vision that we have for the development of culture.”

He said the new facility would challenge Nevisians to “raise the bar” in the arts.

“I want to say to the people of Nevis, this is your Performing Arts Centre and we are going to carry it to a level which makes it on par with the rest of the Caribbean and the rest of the world,” he said.

The project, which has a 400-seat capacity, was designed by architect John Baker of St Maarten-based IXI Designs.
