Hyatt Is Bringing Its Centric Brand to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - January 26, 2024

The Dominican Republic’s capital of Santo Domingo has quietly become a surging tourist destination in the last half-decade, buoyed by the country’s push to position the city as a true urban vacation destination.

More and more airlines have been adding nonstop flights to Santo Domingo’s Las Americas airport, and now the city is starting to see the major brands come in as well.

The latest? Hyatt Centric, which plans to debut a new hotel in the city’s business district with plans to open around the end of this year.

Hyatt Centric Santo Domingo will have about 130 rooms and suites, joined by another 5,000 square feet of flexible event space.

The hotel “will place guests at the heart of the action near prominent restaurants, shopping malls, art galleries and electric nightlife,” according to Hyatt Hotels.

While it will be the first Hyatt of any kind in Santo Domingo, it won’t be the first Hyatt-branded resort in the Dominican Republic, where the company has a two all-inclusive resorts in the exclusive area of Cap Cana near Punta Cana (Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara).

While the city’s shopping and nightlife continue to improve, the biggest draw in Santo Domingo remains the charming 500-year-old Colonial Zone, the cradle of the New World that is a haven for history lovers, art aficionados and luxury travelers.
