Barbados’ Legendary Sailing Week Is Back

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - January 2, 2024

You may have seen those rarities from the Caribbean: the red Mount Gay regatta hats.

They’re one of the most prized artifacts in the Caribbean, but they can only be secured if you race in a Mount Gay regatta.

In other words, if you do so during Barbados’ legendary Sailing Week, which is back again back again this month.

Barbados Sailing Week runs this year from Jan. 13-24, anchored by the world-famous Mount Gay Round Barbados race, which will be held on the 21st.

The event kicks off with a weekend of dinghy races, with the next few days including everything from wing foiling to kiteboarding contests.

The event’s opening ceremony will beheld on Jan. 14, followed by dragon flite (remote-controlled sailboat) races coastline races and the final event: the popular Rum to Spice race, a Barbados to Grenada sailing race, which sees sailors journey from Carlisle Bay in Barbados to the Grenadian island of Carriacou.

“Each day of the Barbados Sailing Week promises a new experience,” organizers said.
