The new $27.3 million international airport project on the island of Abaco in the Bahamas is making progress.

The Marsh Harbour Airport Terminal project, which includes a new air traffic control tower, fire/crash rescue facility and international terminal, includes a 24,000-square-foot terminal, and will have the capacity to serve approximately 200,000 passengers per year.

“We have a lot to be done,” said contractor Fletcher McIntosh. “In order to be finished there is some rough work that needs to be done.”

According to Works Minister Neko Grant, the $4 million flight tower is expected to employ residents of Abaco.

“There is a recruitment programme going on as we speak so they can be trained in time to occupy the tower on completion of the building,” he said.

The Bahamas signed the contract to begin construction in September of last year.

FES Construction is building the new facility.
