Bonaire Tourism Numbers Ahead of 2019 Pace

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 10, 2023

The tiny Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire continues to see tourism arrivals stay ahead of its pre-pandemic pace, according to new data from Tourism Corporation Bonaire, the island’s tourist board.

For the year to date, Bonaire is reporting 139,490 stay over visitors, ahead of the 130,300 visitors it welcomed at this point in 2019. It’s also ahead of last year’s total of 137,500 through October.

Last month, Bonaire reported 13,525 stay over visitors, up from 12,200 visitors in the same month in 2019. Tourism officials said that was driven in large part by the Regatta Bonaire sailing festival which was held last month.

The United States and The Netherlands continue to be the top source markets for the island, with American travelers accounting for 16.72 percent of all visitors to the island in October.

American travelers stayed an average of one week on the island last month, while Dutch tourists spent an average of 14 days.

On the cruise side, the island welcomed four ships totaling 14,447 cruise passengers.
