American Airlines Is Launching a New Flight to The Bahamas

By: Alexander Britell - July 13, 2023

American Airlines is adding a new route to The Bahamas, launching flights to its second airport on the island of Eleuthera.

Beginning in February 2024, American Airlines will be launching a new route between Miami and Governor’s Harbour in Eleuthera.

The new service, which officially kicks off Feb. 3, will be operating twice weekly, with flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

It complements existing flights between Miami and North Eleuthera International Airport, a route that largely serves demand for neighboring Harbour Island.

The new Governor’s Harbour service is a major lift for destinations across the southern half of the island, from Governor’s Harbour itself to hotspots like Rock Sound (home to the luxe new Jack’s Bay development, soon to add a course by Jack Nicklaus) and the beloved Cape Eleuthera Resort and Marina on the southern tip of the island.

Cape Eleuthera has been one of the hottest places to stay in The Bahamas of late, and is set to unveil a major new expansion with a range of direct beachfront bungalows.

Eleuthera has been quietly adding new flights from several markets, including Silver Airways’ recently-launched flights between Orlando and North Eleuthera and Aztec’s new route between Fort Lauderdale Executive and Eleuthera.

The move comes as American Airlines is planning a significant expansion to the region this winter, both out of Miami and cities like Charlotte and Dallas-Fort Worth.

The Caribbean should also benefit from a major expansion of American’s service from cities across the United States into Miami, opening up the carrier’s broad Caribbean network out of MIA.

“Next winter we’re proud to continue to invest in the undisputed gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean, a true point of pride for our more than 14,000 locally-based team members,”
