More Travelers Are Taking Ferries to The Bahamas

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - March 22, 2023

More and more travelers are traveling to The Bahamas via ferry from Florida, according to Spanish firm Balearia, which operates a pair of ferry routes to the country.

Baleria, which runs ferries from Fort Lauderdale to both Grand Bahama and Bimini, said its passenger traffic last year grew by 50 percent as compared to 2021.

That represented a total of 112,000 passengers on Bahamas routes in 2022, with a total of 450 sailings.

The company says this month’s spring break traffic is also very strong, with 10,000 passengers projected between March 11 and April 1.

Baleria operates sailings four days a week during the low season, with three sailings to Bimini and two each week to Freeport.

That increases to six weekly sailings during the summer season.
