Delta Just Launched Two New Nonstop Routes to Puerto Rico

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - December 25, 2022

Delta Air Lines has kicked off a pair of new routes to San Juan, Puerto Rico, Caribbean Journal has confirmed.

The carrier has started new nonstop service from both Boston Logan Airport and Detroit’s Wayne County Airport to San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport.

The new flights will represent an additional 25,000 seats for Puerto Rico’s tourism industry between December and April 2023.

“The air access sector continues to strengthen as renowned airlines, such as Delta Air Lines, continue betting on the combination of modern infrastructure, diversity of options, and accessibility that Puerto Rico has as a world-class destination in the Caribbean region,” said Carlos Mercado Santiago, the executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.

The new route between Boston Logan International Airport and San Juan will be operating daily until April 23, 2023.

The service from Detroit, one of Delta’s key U.S. cities, will be operating once-weekly on Saturdays through April 8.

Both routes will be operated on Delta’s B739 aircraft with capacity for 180 passengers.

“The increase in routes and frequencies from important domestic and “international flight centers, in addition to offering greater convenience to travelers looking for a place to spend the winter season, boosts economic activity, benefits thousands of local workers, and increases the contribution from the tourism sector to the development of the island’s economy,” said Mercado Santiago.

Indeed, Puerto Rico has been seeing a wave of new airlift in the last few years as the island’s tourism industry has boomed amid the pandemic.

“Puerto Rico is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean, especially for Delta customers, said Amy Martin, vice president of International Network Planning for Delta Airlines. “Now Delta customers in San Juan will have access to two additional flight hubs in the United States, where they can conveniently connect to more destinations around the world. We will continue to work to provide our customers with more flight options along with Delta’s renowned hospitality and reliability.”
