Jewel Resorts Just Opened a New All-Inclusive in Punta Cana

By: Alexander Britell - December 21, 2022

Playa Hotels and Resorts’ Jewel brand has opened its first-ever resort in the Dominican Republic, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The new Jewel Punta Cana has opened its doors in the Uvero Altao Beach area of greater Punta Cana, the country’s most popular tourist destination.

It’s the latest addition to the massive number of Punta Cana all inclusive resorts.

The 620-room, family-friendly resort is set about 35 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport. It is a transformation of the former Dreams Punta Cana Resort and Spa.

It’s the first Dominican resort for Jewel, whose resort portfolio includes the Jewel Paradise Cove Beach Resort and Spa in Runaway Bay, Jamaica. And the Jewel Grande Montego Bay, also in Jamaica.

The Jewel Punta Cana is the first of what will be two Jewel-branded resorts in the Dominican Republic. A second property, the Jewel Palm Beach, will be opening its doors on Jan. 7, 2023, with a total of 500 rooms.

“The addition of Jewel Punta Cana and Jewel Palm Beach to Playa’s portfolio is a natural expansion of the Jewel brand given its success in Jamaica and its appeals to a mid-level luxury clientele,” stated Dean Sullivan, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Playa Hotels & Resorts. “These two resorts are a welcomed addition for guests looking for an exceptional, yet affordable, vacation in the Dominican Republic.”

Playa has a portfolio of 23 all-inclusive resorts across the Caribbean and Mexico, operating under brands like Hyatt Ziva and Zilara, Hilton and Wyndham Alltra, among others.

So what is the Jewel brand?

Playa says the brand is about “an all-inclusive experience at a midscale price point with upscale amenities, breathtaking beaches and diverse dining options.”

For now, the price point is decidedly affordable, with an opening rate of $99 per night, according to Playa.
