Sun Country Airlines Is Relaunching Its Cayman Islands Flights

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 14, 2022

Low-cost carrier Sun Country Airlines is relaunching its nonstop flights to the Cayman Islands this winter.

Beginning Dec. 17, Sun Country will be resuming its flights between Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport and Grand Cayman’s Owen Roberts International Airport.

The service is operating once weekly on Saturdays.

“With consumers’ current urge to travel, this is the perfect time to bring Minnesotans back to the Cayman Islands on Sun Country Airlines as we know how much they like to escape the cold to a beautiful tropical beach,” said the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism’s US General Manager, Tom Ludington. “We look forward to the relaunch of winter flights to the Cayman Islands and are eager to accommodate returning guests and first-time visitors to our beautiful corner of the Caribbean.”

The relaunch will mark Sun Country’s first service to the Cayman Islands since the onset of the pandemic.

“We’re excited to offer travelers service to the beautiful Cayman Islands,” said Grant Whitney, Sun Country Airlines Chief Revenue Officer. “This is a popular Caribbean destination in the winter months for our customers and we appreciate the hospitality and partnership from the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism. With service to Grand Cayman, Sun Country offers nonstop service from MSP to 14 international destinations throughout the Caribbean, Latin America and Mexico.”

It’s part of the Cayman Islands’ continued tourism growth since its reopening last year, one that has only heated up since the destination lifted all of its travel protocols in August

The destination has also seen a surge in new airlift, most notably the just-launched service between Los Angeles and Grand Cayman on Cayman Airways.
