Tourism in Cancun continues to grow at a rapid pace, according to the latest data from the Cancun International Airport.
And it’s far exceeding even the record-breaking levels the destination saw in 2019.
An analysis of passenger traffic data showed traffic of 2.725 million in August, which represented a 25.7 percent compared to August 2019.
For the year, passenger traffic in Cancun stands at 20.217 million in 2022, a 45 percent jump over the same period last year and a 13.7 percent increase over the first eight months of 2019, before the pandemic.
The data was revealed by Mexico-based ASUR, which manages Cancun International Airport and eight other airports in Mexico.
Cancun capitalized in the early stages of the post-pandemic return to travel by choosing not to require pre-testing for travelers.
That led to an early boom in the summer of 2020 and a tourism renaissance that has continued for the last two years.
Cancun has also seen a wave of new airlift from cities across the United States, drawn by the sizzling demand for the destination from American travelers.
