American Airlines Set to Launch Daily Flights to Dominica
American Airlines is set to launch daily service to the Eastern Caribbean island of Dominica.
On April 4, American will expand its service from Miami to Dominica to daily, a spokesperson for the airline confirmed to Caribbean Journal.
It’s a significant boost for Dominica, which has long been one of the region’s top adventure destinations, from the longest hiking trail in the entire Caribbean to a host of unparalleled natural sites.
In recent years, the island has begun to carve out a niche in the eco-luxury space, led by its most celebrated resort: the Secret Bay resort near Portsmouth.
“The daily direct flight on American Airlines is a game changer not only for our tourism industry but also for our citizens,” said Gregor Nassief, proprietor of Fort Young Hotel, Secret Bay and The Residences at Secret Bay, and Chairman and CEO of GEMS Holdings Limited. ”The team at American has been doing an amazing job and it’s wonderful to see their commitment to Dominica. Our ‘Nature Island’ remains the gem of the Caribbean and is now easier to discover than ever before.”
In just the last few years, the island has seen more luxury hotel development, from the Kempinski resort to a pair of eco-luxe retreats: the transformed Jungle Bay and the newly-launched Coulibri Ridge hotel.
The Miami-Dominica service first launched in early December as the first-ever international nonstop route to Dominica.
Strong demand has led the route to expand from two-flights-per-week to what is now set to be daily service.
