It’s Getting Even Easier to Visit Bonaire

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - July 26, 2021

It’s getting even easier to visit one of the Caribbean’s hottest travel destinations, from expanded airlift to eased entry requirements for vaccinated travelers.

The Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire has announced that it has eased testing requirements for fully vaccinated U.S. travelers.

Now fully vaccinated travelers simply have to show proof of a negative PCR test taken and received within 72 hours of arrival to Bonaire (the island has eliminated a second 24-hour pre-testing requirement for the vaccinated).

And major air carriers are expanding their service to Bonaire in the coming months.

On Nov. 8, American Airlines will add a third weekly flight from Miami to Bonaire, with Monday service complementing existing Wednesday and Saturday flights.

American is also expanding its service from an Airbus A319 to a Boeing 737 for the Saturday flight, adding 44 additional seats.

Beginning Dec. 16, American will offer daily flights from Miami to Bonaire.

Delta, which is currently running two weekly flights from Atlanta to Bonaire, will expand to daily flights on Dec. 18, running through January 2. (Daily flights will then operate from March 1 to April 3 as well).

“This is an important milestone for the island. In addition to the third weekly flight on American Airlines, this is the first time that either airline will offer daily direct service to Bonaire,” said Miles Mercera, director of Tourism Corporation Bonaire. “It’s a testament to a growing interest in the unique experiences we have to offer. The increased frequency from both airlines will meet the demand and provide an effortless link to travel between the US and our beautiful island. We are looking forward to welcoming these additional visitors and showcasing the varied landscapes, diverse culture and elevated offerings we have available.”
