St Barth Is Reopening for Tourism This Week

By: Alexander Britell - June 6, 2021

The Caribbean’s most glamorous destination is reopening this week, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The French Caribbean island of St Barth will officially reopen its borders for tourism on June 9 to all fully vaccinated travelers from the United States, Europe and most other countries in North and Central America, the island’s tourism board confirmed.

So what does it mean for travelers?

All travelers 18 and over will have to show proof of complete vaccination (meaning it’s been at least two weeks after second shot of a two-dose vaccine and four weeks after the shot of a single-dose vaccine).

Additionally, all travelers 10 and up will have to show proof of a negative PCR result taken and received within 72 hours before traveling — or a negative rapid antigen test taken within two full days before arrival, according to WIMCO Villas

The best way to travel to St Barth remains flying on Tradewind Aviation, the luxury carrier that flies regularly scheduled and charter flights from San Juan to St Barth every day.

“We’re thrilled that St Barths is re-opening to tourism,” Tradewind Aviation’s David Zipkin told Caribbean Journal. “Demand for summer travel to St Barth is unprecedented, as our guests become vaccinated and the level of comfort with travel increases. Tradewind and our local partners are looking forward to welcoming our guests aboard very soon.”

So what’s open?

Most of the island’s hotels are open, excepting some that closed amid the border shutdown or are typically closed during the summer; the island’s impressive villa product is open and welcoming guests, from top providers like WIMCO and St Barth Properties.

The St Jean-area beach resort called Les Ilets de la Plage.

The reopening is a significant boost for the destination, which had first reopened in June 2020 before closing its borders anew in January 2021.
