Marriott Just Opened a New Hotel in Cancun

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - February 5, 2021

Marriott has opened its first new Caribbean resort of 2021, with the debut of the new Residence Inn by Marriott Cancun Hotel Zone.

The new, all-suite property has a total of 158 suites, with separate work, living and sleeping spaces, along with fully-equipped kitchens.

That’s along with amenities like free Wi-Fi and breakfast.

The hotel is anchored by a rooftop pool.

“The all-suite property offers guests the ideal environment to live without constraints paired with highly personal service,” Marriott said in a statement.

The property appeals to both leisure and longer-stay travelers, with the latter a growing trend amid the pandemic.

“With pent-up demand predicted to lead to ‘revenge travel,’ our booking trends indicate an uptick in leisure travel planning after a difficult year,” said Tina Edmundson, Global Brand and Marketing Officer of Marriott International.

“Leisure destinations continue to be a bright spot in the progress to recovery and has become a priority growth area across all of our distinctive brands, including our popular select service hotels. These new properties will offer a chance to escape with flexible, open spaces that allow our guests to once again embrace the freedom of travel when they are ready,” Edmundson said.

The opening will soon be followed by another new launch for Marriott in the Mexican Caribbean, with the Aloft Tulum set to open in March

The latter will include 140 loft-style rooms and suites in the heart of Tulum’s downtown district.

The Mexican Caribbean has been open for tourism since last summer, with no entry protocols.
