Cape Air Just Broke a Record in the Caribbean

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - February 25, 2020

Popular regional Caribbean carrier Cape Air just broke a record for ridership.

Cape Air carried 35,000 passengers between December 2019 and January 2020, its highest monthly ridership to date since launching in the region 22 years ago.

That number represented a 51 percent year-over-year increase compared to the same period in 2018.

Hyannis, Mass.-based Cape Air flies to eight destinations in the Caribbean out of its hub in San Juan.

“We are very proud of our performance in the Caribbean and the role we play in the development of air traffic in the region,” said Linda Markham, President of Cape Air. “Our Operational Excellence initiative, which focuses on safety, reliability, and customer experience, has been embraced by all our employees, and that shows in these growing numbers.”

The company runs more than 80 daily flights from San Juan to destinations including St Thomas, St Croix, Tortola, Vieques, Mayaguez, Culebra, Virgin Gorda and Nevis.

The company has a fleet of 25 in the Caribbean for the season.

It will soon launch a new aircraft called the Tecnam P2012 Traveller, the industry’s first twin-engine “clean-sheet” design aircraft.
