Dominican Republic’s Amber Cove Seeing Big Cruise Growth

The Dominican Republic’s newest cruise port is seeing significant growth this summer, according to new data from the country’s Ministry of Tourism.

The Amber Cove port, which is located in Puerto Plata, saw a total of 64,415 passengers in July, compared to 35,320 in July 2017.

That represented an 82 percent increase in cruise passenger arrivals year over year.

It came after Puerto Plata saw a total of 62,279 passengers in June, itself a jump of 189 percent compared to June 2017.

The port first opened in 2015.
