American Airlines could be launching its first-ever flights to Guyana sooner than expected.

The carrier could now start its new Miami-Georgetown route by mid-November, one month earlier than planned, according to the government of Guyana.

American Airlines Slide

The new flights come as Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport reported its highest-ever passenger movement in the first quarter of 2018, according to Retired Lieutenant Colonel Egbert Field, Director General of the GCAA.

“We’ve already seen an increase in passenger transport over the last couple months when compared to last year,” Field said.

Field said American would first operate the Georgetown-Miami route before “possibly extending to other destinations.”

The Guyana service will operate four times per week on an Airbus A319 aircraft.
