In a positive sign for an island devastated by Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico’s Luis Munoz Marin airport has relaunched commercial operations.

An American Airlines flight from Miami arrived in San Juan on Friday afternoon.

Officials said terminal buildings suffered “minor damage” in sections that had been out of operation even before the storm.

“Airport infrastructure is insured against these events, therefore the company does not expect significant economic impact,” manager Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste said.

While the airport has reopened, officials recommended coming to the airport “only if you have confirmation of your flight.”

Operations at Luis Munoz Marin remain limited, with “some restricted services,” according to a statement.
